Get ready for the London Jaguars since the NFL has considered a UK team for a few years.

There was the London Monarchs back in the day that was part of NFL Europe.

With all respect to the Scottish league they have a smaller league system and it's really only about Celtic and Rangers. Aberdeen were successful under Sir Alex Ferguson but unless you're a Rangers or Celtic fan I'd imagine the league gets boring. Surprising how much TV rights are for the Premiership too. The Taylor Report (which happened after the Hillsbourough tragedy) set out a plan for all seater stadiums for the top leagues (I believe every tier til the conference has to be all seats), the US style promotion of Sky Sports, England's success at Italia 90 and Gazza-mania, the Brit Pop/Cool Britannia and Euro 96 all helped in making football/soccer "cool" in the UK again. It was seen as a haven for hooliganism and a older folks sport so attendances were down in the 80s. The high ticket prices and subscription fees to Sky/BT are pricing out the lower classes though which really sucks since it was a working class sport. Now Sky have tidied it up and presented it as for the middle classes which was usually what Rugby and Cricket were marketed as.

Right, but the London games have been successful so Roger Goodell has been trying to convince owners to agree to allow a British (and he's also wanted a Mexican) team. The problem is the player's union is opposed to the idea because they don't want to fly every year to England since all teams but the Jaguars have complained about having a bad game there. And it will be rougher on the actual English team since they'd be flying to the US 8 times a year. But in the end money talks so it's possible in the next few years. And it would be funny if the Jaguars went from Jacksonville, a white trash city nobody likes (home to Limp Bizkit fittingly), to cosmopolitan London.

Makes no logical sense to have a NFL team based in England. For promotional reasons to grow the NFL here maybe but logistically it doesn't work. Would they be a AFL/NFL team?, which sub division would they be apart of. Do the current Jacksonville team have to uproot themselves to live in the UK?. Would the team be made up of English players instead?. I think reactivating NFL Europe makes much more sense and maybe having a World Bowl where the winner of the Super Bowl plays the NFL Europe bowl winner makes much more sense. If the Jags moved to Canada logistically that's no so bad but across the pond, thousands of miles away?.

The Jaguars would go so they'd be in the AFC. Sadiq Khan has been pushing for it too.

They probably would scout for British players to make people more interested. I guess recruit from rugby.

It doesn't make sense but Roger Goodell will do anything for more money. He's wanted this for a decade. So he's excited for the Wembley deal.

Seems the Jags owner wants to buy Wembley Stadium for $800m https://www.12up.com/posts/6181375-brit ... edium=[nfl]

Yea recruiting from Rugby makes sense, could hire an ex big name soccer player for a kicker too I guess. But how would that work in the NFL Draft. The UK doesn't have a draft system so their recruits would come from the US. I guess it *might* work but at a huge financial cost. Flying over a huge squad of players etc, finding them all a place to stay during the regular season, travelling to and from the US but smarter move is bring the US teams to the UK to solely play their games in England. Plus the current Jaguars fans will have to find a new team for root for. There's a NFL fan base here but likely of other teams so it's asking a lot to suddenly hope folks in London will want to root for the Jags. Only real team move here has been Wimbledon to Milton Keynes to become the MK Dons. So it's not a familiar thing here since teams stay rooted where they are 99.9% of the time. So say the Jags aren't a success and they move back to the US it's likely the U.K. fan base would dissipate. Buying Wembley for soccer, concerts, other sporting events and having NFL exhibition games is smart. But actually moving a team over I can't see it being a success to be honest. It's like idk Liverpool FC moving to Boston and because of the Red Sox ownership connection hoping the Sox fans will be fans of Liverpool and there being a fan base. NFL is fairly popular here, we get the Super Bowl live on BBC but it's not huge like it was in the 80s. Same with the NBA in the mid 90s was popular but not huge either and this was the Jordan led 3peat Bulls era. Mainstream England is rather insular when it comes to watching non English sports I mean even the World of Sport British wrestling fans a lot balked at the WWF & WCW. So the Jaguars owner is already facing an uphill battle I think.

It's hyped on NFL broadcasts like London loves the Jaguars and they show a bunch of people at Wembley wearing their jerseys, and NFL TV host James Brown will say stuff like "London has adopted the Jaguars." But that could just be NFL propaganda #fakenews.

Fantastic result for Liverpool. They will play either Ajax or Spurs in the Champions league final. Also two points behind Man City who each have just one final Premier League game left. If the Reds win it's their first league championship in 29 years.

C'mon you Reds :winner:
