It was crazy how much that was ignored by the mainstream when it came out. MTV BET and radio were so consumed by gangsta rap only hardcore fans realized how great that record was. And it was kind of sad Nas had to do a gangsta rap album on It Was Written to get mainstream play. Street Dreams, which was immediately a hit, sucked compared to Illmatic songs.
