That would be cool, I'm surprised WWE let the other WCW trademarks they own expire. If I'm
correct they still own Starrcade and acquired the War Games on a while back. Actually smart of Cody if he's picking up these old trademarks since some could be used today.
The term of a federal trademark is 10 years, with 10-year renewal terms. However, the USPTO requires that between the fifth and sixth year after the date of registration, the registrant must file an affidavit stating that the mark is still in use. If no affidavit is filed, the registration is cancelled.

I don't remember how her matches were, but she got over pretty big as a character.

I'm assuming Impact are working with AEW as they have the Lucha Bros etc too. I think if they are, bringing in Brian Cage, Moose, Kross, Rich Swann, Johnny Impact and Sami would be good pick ups too.

Also Kenny teased a future appearance in DDT too

Yea Allie certainly was over as a babyface (she started out in Impact as Maria's assistant where she kept picking on her til she snapped and fought back) but I think turning her heel was a mistake when they aligned her with Su. I'm assuming she'll be a face again in AEW though. Will be interesting to see who their top baby face women's wrestler will be since they have Kylie Rae who has a similar gimmick to what Allie has as a face.

I have no idea where this Matt Jackson and Michael Nakazawa angle is going. Maybe he's the Homer Simpson to Matt's Frank Grimes?

Well, I don't actually know either  but, they've booked the CEO video games guy against Michael in a Hardcore match for DON. I think the angle is that Matt is slowly being driven insane by just the mention of Nak's name and they did the bit with Nick & Kenny wearing the T-shirt and he heard his name as Michael Nakazawa too. Yea it's very reminiscent of Grimey & Homer.

The Kenny doc airs tomorrow on TSN in Canada. I don't think any other international TV broadcast dates have been announced yet though. An old article from 2011

Seems the wheels are in motion for the TV deal

They left out some things

1) In DDT they were openly gay. But it, like everything in DDT, was a parody of pro wrestling tropes. So the joke was on how homoerotic tag teams can be.

2) Chris Kanyon pitched doing a gay wrestler gimmick in 2005 where it was going to be the first time a gay character wasn't just a "lol he likes cocks" joke. Stephanie turned him down and was shitty about it. A year later when Kanyon became a recurring guest on Howard Stern after befriending Artie Lange he talked about it. WWE had Ric Flair call in because they knew he was Kanyon's idol so he wouldn't go off on him.
On the Howard Stern show this morning Chris Kanyon was in the studio. Kanyon was there to watch as Artie Lange paid up on a bet between the two. Artie bet Kanyon that the Yankees would go further into the playoffs then the Mets would. Obviously Artie lost the bet and has to make out with Blue Iris – a 70 year old porno star.

While in the studio the first time around, Kanyon talked about why he was fired from the WWE. He claims he was fired when he admitted he was gay. Ric Flair called into the studio and the two debated the subject for about 20 minutes.

Flair claims that Kanyon was released because he is just not good enough for the WWE. He said Kanyon is talented and has some charisma and is a great guy but he feels that Kanyon is making excuses as to why he was fired.

Kanyon denied Flairs allegations and asked why if he wasnt good enough why did Kanyon work in WCW for a long time while Flair was running the show. Flair said that the Kanyon today is not as good as the Kanyon of yesteryear.

Kanyon asked Flair if he was so bad and not good enough why did Flair ask Kanyon to train his son David. Flair denied that he ever asked Kanyon to train his son David Flair.

Flair went on to say that never in WWE history has someone been fired due to their sexual preferences. Kanyon disagreed and they ended their debate with a friendly exchange. Kanyon said that Flair was his hero and the greatest wrestler of all time and Flair said that Kanyon was a great guy and needed to recognize that he just wasnt good enough for the current climate of Professional Wrestling.
3) They left out they backed off of the angle in America. At an ROH PPV they had Brandi kiss Kenny and he liked it so Brandi proclaimed Omega wasn't gay. And I think they minimized it in Japan as well. Maybe New Japan told Gedo to stop, maybe Ibushi wasn't comfortable with it since them being gay wasn't being presented as a comedy act anymore. Who knows.

Homosexuality could be thought of as being taboo subject to be brought up especially in a wrestling context. Going back to the original Gorgeous George you had fans hate him because he acted effeminate. Even today wrestlers like Sonny Kiss, Velveteen Dream etc draw a certain negative reaction among the fan base.

I actually think on the whole the Golden Lovers story was tastefully done. If WWE had got their hands on it, especially back in the day, it would have been in poor taste with stereotypes, fans shouting out homophobic abuse etc. To my knowledge, Kenny and Kota havent come out as gay, but they don't really have to, its up to them whether to announce their sexuality.

I believe on one of the NJPW on the Road episodes Ken said something like he wants to settle down with a Wife or boyfriend so he could likely be bisexual, or he's saying that to play along with the "are they, aren't the" assumption of the Golden Lovers.

I honestly have no issue whatsoever if Kenny and/or Kota are gay/bi. I noticed some comments when fans are like "they are just good friends" etc, but if they are more than friends, and were or still in a relationship, that's entirely their business and good luck to them.

It doesn't and shouldn't detract from their in ring ability and I think it would be disappointing if fans turned their back on Kenny and/or Kota comes out as gay/bisexual. I believe Kenny's not publicly spoke out because it really shouldn't be an issue and having the LGTBQ community feel included as wrestling fans is a great thing as it should be all inclusive. No one should feel left out and I believe that story was done in such a way that regardless of your sexual orientation you rooted for them to get back together as a team.

Its actually rather sad they are pursuing their own individual journeys now and Kenny still seems broke up about it, so I do think there was a genuine bond there between the GL. You can definitely say it was a wrestling love story. I think some objected against that and the storyline arc with Brandi I think was to placate fans who were perhaps turned off by the story hence the "Ken isn't gay" aspect.

In actuality the story was cleverly done and I think wrestling needs more stories that bring out genuine emotions. Such as Liz reuniting with Macho at WM7. Moments like that, to me make wrestling great. If at DON Jericho beats down Kenny and Kota somehow turns up to save him that would be a real cool moment too. I believe he can still work New Japan as part of his deal so the same logic could apply there too if LIJ or the BC beat down Kota, Kenny could make the save for him too.

Velveteen did at first, but he's pretty much getting all pops since early on that it's clear he's just flamboyant. He's never done any gay baiting heel stuff. He just likes dressing like Prince in 1991.

Ibushi isn't gay or bi, he's known as a huge ladies man in Japan. Kenny is bisexual supposedly. There's nothing between them other than just being close friends for 10 years who I guess aren't now with either Ibushi mad Kenny abruptly walked out of New Japan or Kenny mad Ibushi has no interest in coming in for AEW shows.

I don't see Ibushi doing anything for AEW. He doesn't like the travel. WWE offered him a lot of money as well and he made it clear he doesn't really care about being a star in America. He will come twice a year for US New Japan shows but he would never be a regular for AEW. That he signed his first long term contract after a decade of only taking 6 month deals means he's serious about only working for NJ. He probably wants to be champion and a guarantee he won't leave in 6 months was the only way to get it.

OK that's interesting thanks. I know Kota is very popular with the ladies in Japan, you can see that with how they fawn over him in the crowd, but I assume that was because of how they loved the GL and their close friendship. There was an implied relationship between the two, but I guess that was part of the story to make it all inclusive. There's been close friends/faction groups in the past though which don't touch on that subject but I guess because of how they portrayed themselves in DDT they just ran with it.

As for Kens sexuality, he's mentioned he has received homophobic tweets and such in the past, so I think he's guarded about speaking openly about it. I've read/heard he's possibly bisexual, but it really shouldn't matter. In an old interview he talks about his Girlfriend.

Their parting though if you read into it, is like a breakup of two lovers. Kota seems like he's hurt and/or dismissive over him leaving, whereas Kenny is more so hurt about it and disappointed he didn't join AEW. I assume they'll reunite when Ken goes over there as I don't think the fans would be into them feuding considering how invested they were in their story. Something like that would never fly in WWE because of how they'd imply things and there'd be that homophobic overtone to it. They might be a bit more progressive but it's more to appease their sponsors than anything else.

Look at how they portrayed Goldust at first as an example. Any real world type thing they fumble with, because they seem out of touch. I think AEW employing gay and trans wrestlers is a huge step in the right direction. Plus they aren't pushing them in your face like WWE would with how social conscious they are.

Their handling of gay characters has been abysmal in the past. I think I mentioned you have Hogan their #1 face refer to Adrian Adonis as "It" on TNT show. I don't think Adrian was even gay irl but still it set a bad example. I think wrestling should be for everyone and it's great AEW are breaking down barriers. That shouldn't have to be an issue in 2019 though. Homophobia, racism etc shouldn't even be an issue nowadays at all, but sadly it is. England had some of their players racially abused by lowlifes yesterday :nono: and the players had to deal with that senseless BS in the 70s. Society needs to be much more progressive but it seems to have regressed if anything. You have idiots on social media hiding behind aliases posting abusive messages etc so it's no wonder, even if they were gay or bisexual they haven't publicly come out.

But if Kenny does in the doc then I think it would be great for him personally. He seems conflicted on the subject and hasn't really ever directly addressed it but he should ignore the haters and do it. Personally it wouldn't bother me what his sexual orientation is, or Kota's, or anyone's, that's their own private business. So when people are so hung up over him possibly being gay/bi I don't really get it. It doesn't affect his in ring performance, his 5/6/7 star matches won't disappear etc. If anything he'd probably gain even more respect, especially in the LGBTQ community for speaking out and using wrestling to help bring about acceptance of his sexuality. He was asked in 2016 about his sexuality on Twitter

Not kinda messed up, very messed up, I actually think that could have happened which is what soured his experience in developmental. We know DeMott cowardly bullied people and rightly got canned for it.

Meltzer said they don't address his orientation in the show. There was a rumor months ago that's what the whole thing is about, but it's not true according to Dave.

OK, thanks. I thought Kenny was going to address his sexuality in the documentary and to clear up the rumour(s) around the GL. But it's his own personal, private life and doesn't have to disclose his personal business if he doesn't want to. I do think if he was gay/bisexual speaking out about it would be brave considering the industry he's in. But historically gay wrestlers weren't treated well sadly. Look how long Pat had to keep it hidden. But it's the 21st century and people need to be more accepting of people's sexual orientation. As long as its with a consenting adult I have no issues whatsoever.
