WWE superstar Roman Reigns has been suspended for 30 DAYS for violating the organization's wellness policy ... WWE officials say.

The exact violation is unclear ... though the policy covers everything from substance abuse to annual physicals and cardiovascular health.

Reigns is a 3-time world heavyweight champ -- and just lost the title on Sunday's "Money in the Bank" PPV event. He's also one of the WWE's biggest stars.

Reigns has owned up to the violation, saying -- "I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy. No excuses. I own it."
