So apparently the Switch hacking scene just blew up last night. There's already Linux builds, a custom firmware, and even a port of Dolphin running Gamecube games at 25fps. The leaked Nvidia Bootrom exploit accelerated everyone's plans by 2 months, so everything is in very alpha stages now, but it's still crazy to see all of this release in 24 hours. My only hope is that piracy doesn't start pouring out and sink Nintendo's sales, as it really, really needs the Switch to be successful.

Software sales from crusty old people will definitely decline, but the average kid under 12 isn't going to be doing USB hacks with their computer. :olol:

This exploit is more difficult than softmodding a Wii or burning CD-Rs for the Dreamcast. If the scene comes up with a softmod or some method that doesn't require a computer, that'll definitely change things.

It will be a popular scene if they're already running Dolphin like melancholy said, especially with the portability factor. The system already supports the Gamecube adapter natively, which means Project M is available. :yep:

Pretty much the same game but for some reason it's now 3 points better.

Apparently this company wants to block the switch from being imported.

Was that the guy who said that he was going to give DKC TF a shitty review regardless, purely on the basis that he wanted a new Metroid Prime?

has announced that Resident Evil 7 is coming to the Switch, but not as you’d expect.

Resident Evil 7 Cloud Edition doesn’t run on the console itself, instead runs streaming off the internet. The entire game, including the Banned Footage Volume 1 and 2, End of Zoe, and Not a Hero DLC will be available.

The game is out this week in Japan, May 24th – a western release hasn’t been announced.

Chances of this working in Australia? Basically zip.

According to IGN, it’s a 180 day streaming pass for $18. Plus your game saves are in the cloud and once the pass expires, your saves are (eventually) deleted. What a crappy deal.

Fan-Made POSTAL Port for Nintendo Switch

Image

We certainly were curious to see what might happen when we released the source code for the original POSTAL from 1997. Certainly some great things have come out of it, such as the 20th Anniversary Community patch that we released in November, which was made entirely by volunteer fans working with the source code. We certainly hoped to see ports to older systems with active homebrew scenes (*cough* Dreamcast *cough*), but I don’t think we ever envisioned anything quite like this port for the Nintendo Switch, by Modern Vintage Gamer.

Image

As you may have heard, the Nintendo Switch has an unpatchable hardware exploit that allows you to boot the system in Recovery Mode and to load custom software. Some people have begun doing all sorts of fun stuff with it, such as turning the system into a Linux machine and making homebrew software for it. One such person is a man who goes by Modern Vintage Gamer (or MVG) on YouTube, who has made his own custom native port of the original POSTAL to the console and posted it publicly for anyone to try out. This appears to be just one of many ports that MVG has been cooking up for the newly hacked system, and we’re extremely proud to have our old little game be one of them.

If you’re curious, you can check out this video of MVG himself showing off a port of Outrun he’s made, going over how to boot your Switch into Recovery Mode, and his development process for working on the Switch:

And if you want to actually try out the port for yourself, you can check out the following links.

You can download the release here.
And here is a thread on GBAtemp forums where MVG is responding to people’s questions about the port.

Note that you do need to own an actual copy of the game first, as you will need the data files from that to make this work. But the game is cheap as hell, and we have it on sale all the time, so what’s your excuse?

Now this isn’t the first port of POSTAL to a portable system, as we released a port for Android devices a few years back. However, considering the fact that the Switch is still a fairly new machine that acts both as a portable system and a console, not to mention the novelty of having POSTAL run on Nintendo hardware, this port truly is something special. And it looks like there’s only going to be more and more interesting stuff coming out of this homebrew scene, so there’s a lot to be excited for!

Oh and for the record, we’re still waiting and hoping on someone to do that Dreamcast port!
source was for this news? RWS who else

Pornographic Images Begin Appearing In Super Mario Odyssey

Pornographic Images Begin Appearing In Super Mario Odyssey

As far as Mario games go, Nintendo hit it out of the part again with Super Mario Odyssey. Having captured the essence of the game perfectly it is perhaps one of the most fun and accessible games currently out there or, at the very least, on the Nintendo Switch,

It seems, however, that some naughty material has been turning up in the game. Yes, in a report via Polygon, it seems that hackers have found a way to get pornography to start appearing in the game. Mamma Mia!
Hackers Infiltrating Nintendo Switch

In the report, it is suggested that hackers have found a way to infiltrate the profile avatar system. With it, they have begun uploading adult images. So, how does this make them get into the game you ask? Well, it’s all based on the mini-games offered within Mario Odyssey showing other players scored and, of course, their avatar with it.

Nintendo has advised that while they look to fix the problem that any young children should only play the game offline. By doing this, they should not be able to view any of the online scores submitted and as such avoid the offensive material. The mini-game which has specifically been affected by this is Luigi’s Balloon World. A free update which was added earlier this year.
No Fix Available At The Moment

The hack has been made possible due to the use of a 3rd party software program. A program which incidentally can only be installed on ‘cracked’ Nintendo Switches. In addition, some people believe that this might just be the tip of the iceberg as to what this software could be capable of.

Despite this Nintendo is working hard to fix it. As above though, at present, they have no solution beyond suggesting that people simply play offline. Something which actually doesn’t affect the nature of Mario Odyssey that significantly.

What do you think? – Let us know in the comments!

Nintendo UK charging up to £180 for cracked Switches due to a design flaw

Nintendo is doing a lot right with the Switch, but it looks like Nintendo UK is letting the team down at the moment. Currently, Switch users are reporting that their consoles are cracking due to heat. While many would consider this to be a design flaw, Nintendo is charging UK customers up to £180 for repairs for this issue.

The folks at Nintendo Life have been investigating the incidents, with cracks, chips and warps in the console all taking place after long sessions with the Switch in docked mode. In a poll of 1,000 Switch owners, one in five said that they had experienced some sort of issue after a lengthy session in docked mode.

Nintendo’s official stance is that UK customers should contact Nintendo UK for support. However, a number of these users ended up receiving a £180 bill for repairs. According to Nintendo, there is not enough evidence to prove that this is a widespread issue.

Despite these issues occurring under normal (albeit lengthy) use of the console, Nintendo is saying that these issues do not fall under warranty. This is despite the fact that customers in the US have had no issues getting their consoles fixed for free under warranty.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully more people will start reporting problems, forcing Nintendo to acknowledge this as a widespread problem. Have any KitGuru Switch owners suffered similar problems? In a way, this reminds me of the original Xbox 360’s issues, though on a lesser scale.
