My N64 game collection is so large I doubt a mini would have games I don't have. Though 1080p would be nice.

If they make it I wonder if they will actually make new original style N64 controllers or go with a new design.

More mini news!

Nintendo have filed a European trademark for something N64 related:

That controller image is similar to the images used when they trademarked the NES & SNES minis.

Looks decent, but clearly a 3D render

Unless they can strike a deal with Microsoft and Rare, this thing will be missing a LOT of the best N64 games.

The tipster has stated the N64 Classic announcement will happen on November 1st, 2018 after the Smash announcement.

We do not have a complete list of games yet, however in the same leak we did receive some tips on games that will feature. It will include Rare games and have 30 games overall with 5 names stated:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Puyo Puyo Sun 64 (But may not be on all versions, could be just JP)
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • At least 25 more games.

I would be very interested to see how that turns out. I would buy one if it ran everything like the original.

I just noticed something. The video they released to demo the unit doesn’t have a working Jumbotron on Luigi Raceway, which is a classic emulation issue on (I believe) all Linux and Android emulators. So now my skepticism has skyrocketed.

It's been over 4 years and still no N64 clones. Must have been harder than they expected.

Sega have said the reason they haven't done a Dreamcast Mini is because it would cost US$300. The same thing might be the case with N64, although maybe a bit cheaper due to not needing as much storage.

Just have to wait until more powerful cheap SBCs come out.

$300?! That is more than it cost at launch 24 years ago! I don't see why it would cost so much. There are cheap android devices out that can emulate the Dreamcast pretty much perfectly. Heck about 10 years ago I had an android gaming tablet called the GPD G7 that was around $110 that could emulate the DC surprisingly well.

Unless they are planning on using real hardware instead of just emulation I really don't see why it would cost so much. Just stick a Raspberry Pi like device in a mini Dreamcast shell and load it up with how many ever games they decide to include. The games aren't that big so 128GB of internal storage would be more than enough. Really they could get away with 64GB or even 32GB depending on how many games they were including since the games are 1GB or less. Then have it scale those games to 1080p just like any DC emulator can do and people would love it.

As far as re-creating the controllers I have no idea how much that would cost. Oddly it seems the Dreamcast is one of the only systems that you can't buy a cheap USB version of. Pretty much every retro console up to the N64 has USB versions of their controllers nowadays except for the Dreamcast. Who knows maybe recreating the controller with a little screen built in to emulate the VMU might be the most expensive part of making a DC mini. I still don't think it would cost anywhere near $300 though.

If Sega made a Dreamcast or Saturn mini they would sell a ton of them. It seems like easy money.
