Working Wii U Emulator for PC?! Cemu

Post by Calavera »

Apparently there is a working Wii U emulator for the PC called Cemu.
http://cemu.info/

I don't know how I'd never heard about this until now! I've tried New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Mario 3D World

Both games run full speed on my system.
i5-3570k 3.4ghz
Radeon R9 290x
8GB Ram

Mario Bros. U runs pretty much perfectly. There is some slowdown on the map screen but during gameplay it is fine. 3D world speed seems to be ok, the only issue is some shadow problems.

Still I am very impressed that there is already a working WiiU emulator and it has been around since late 2015!

What do you do if you need the touch screen? That's cool though

Good point, Is it even possible to beat the touch screen levels in SM3DW without the gamepad?
I can't get no...

I'd imagine that like the DS emulators a window under the screen would do it, OK for the DS ones both screens are part of the machine but a similar aproach would make sense to me, not looked into it, though if run full screen who knows what it does for that screen

Some games you can just use the Pro controller, but most of the better games like WW, TP, Mario Maker, Star Fox and Splatoon would be pretty pointless and practically unplayable on an emulator. Also I think Mario 3D World uses the built in mircophone for some stages.

I played Mario 3D World in it's entirety using only a Pro controller. I didn't even know there was a use for the Gamepad beyond the Captain Toad stages until I watched speed runners using the touchscreen.

I played most of it with the pro controller but had to switch to the gamepad on a few levels, I remember having to blow in to the mic to make some platforms move?

Cemu has come quite a ways since I made that post. I've just tried Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and it plays almost perfectly! As for the touchscreen, I've not really played anything that you can't just use the pro controller with. But you can hit tab which switches the display from what would be shown on the TV to what is shown on the tablet then use the mouse to click on the touchscreen. Also about blowing in the mic, the newer versions now allow you map "mic blow" to a button.

I'm eagerly awaiting the day Lego City Undercover runs decently, latest version runs it with many glitches

Well most Wii U games worth playing are going to end being ported over to the Switch, so that bit is almost right.

Zelda BOTW already runs at 15-20 fps! Technically playable. In a month or two it'll probably be running fullspeed in 4k!
