Not even when it spins up?
What about if there is a head crash?
How do you know it's working if it doesn't make a noise? :oshocked: :oshocked:

In other news, I am considering another I.T. Job, I probably won't make that joke if I get an interview.

2 companies (both better than my last I.T. employer) have roles that are more suited to my strengths.

video card: Asus r9 380 strix OC 4GB
https://www.asus.com/au/Graphics-Cards/ ... /overview/
$169 from MSY
Could barely get a shitty 750ti or rx460 2gb for that!

so I bought 2 :D 2 of these are 4K territory, pretty much 4K ready for $340.

Now I have the critical decsison, do I put them in my secondary i7 920, or an older core 2 quad 9400 and see when it bottlenecks..Or sell them right away for a profit.

Another 42" panasonic Plasma.
This one I might keep. lol.

But being a bum now (Oh I'm a bum again if I forgot to mention it) means I have to keep up on the ebay front.

Just haggled an Asus P6T6 WS Revolution mobo and 12GB of DDR3 for $100. Pretty good for a high end x58 board these days, already ordered a 6-core 12-thread x5650 for $50.

Also bartering with a guy for a GTX 680, almost down to $80. If I can find a case and power supply for $50 I'd say this is the best bang for the buck ever.

Got a cheap tablet, Onda v80 Plus. It runs Android and Windows, which could be useful (and yes, it runs Crysis). Has its quirks, but I guess it's to be expected from a $80 device. Storage is terribly limited, so a microSD is pretty much obligatory.

x58 is where it's at for budget performance. even the lower end i7's are still more than capable of high end gaming.. and it's so cheap these days!

The boards aren't, not here in Canada anyways. Tech Yes City is operating out of AUS again and from the looks of it you guys can grab them for slightly cheaper. The i7's and Xeons are dirt cheap though!

Picked up a MSI 680 Lightning last night for $60, one of the fans isn't working and it needs a cleaning but it does work! Killer deal.

Nothing a couple 120mm fans I had laying around couldn't take care of! Should be able to overclock it a fair amount further now, while being quieter. Picked up a Cooler master 690 II case for $50 with a 500W PSU. Love the case, wasn't expecting much of the PSU (generic, only one 6 pin for video), I'll throw it up for sale to offset some of the cost of a proper >600 watter with two 8 pins.

Build total is at $260, will probably finish around $300. Damn good for a 1080p monster.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 with xigmatek cooler
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P
4gb gskill ram
RADEON R7 260X
Seasonic 600W psu
antec 300
$65. This is going to be used to run my slot car software.

^ Thats a damn good deal.

Posting now from the new build. Ran Kombuster for 20 minutes and the GPU maxed out at 75C, cant even hear the fans. Going to work on overclocking it next.

Cleaned and restored the above parts, chucked in coolermaster case..
it is the quietest computer I have ever heard.
when I turned it on, I thought there was a problem. Nope, just dead silent.

I'll probably put it through some tests when I have a little more space.

Bought 6 "broken" graphics cards off EBay for $200, all Zotac. 3x 770, 3x 760, all of them spare one worked perfectly. The one that didn't, I removed the cooler, changed the thermal paste, and bam! Sold the 770's for $400, still have the 760's.

NICE! I love when "BROKEN" means clean and it's fixed

In other news I got a Powercolor 7870 PCS Myst (Tahiti core) for $65.
I plan to add this to my OTHER Powercolor 7870 PCS Myst for some crossfire action in my media PC

Ususally I wouldn't bother with a 7870 or 2, but these things are special! Because of the Tahiti core instead of Pitcairn They are actually more like a 7930 than a 7870.
And I know you can push them up a bit to almost 7950 levels of performance.

Not all strictly tech.. but related:
New desk (2 metres by 1) $30
new chair $230
New bed $200
Crossfire cable. Free.

Done some spring cleaning, almost at the stage I can plug my pc in again.
