The Sports Video Games Thread

Post by Dr. Zoidberg »

A thread for generic sports titles. The same ones that come out every year. Soccer, basketball, tennis etc., etc.

FIFA 17 is using the Frostbite engine.

So the servers were up for less than 2 years. That's pretty scummy.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Releasing December 2016 on PS4, Xbox One and PC

Big Ant Studios and Home Entertainment Suppliers have announced that the successor to Don Bradman Cricket 14 will be released in December 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The announcement focuses on today's release of the Don Bradman Cricket Academy, allowing users to create players for Don Bradman Cricket 17, and take a first look at some of the new creation features in the game.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 features a new lighting system that creates the most true-to-life characters yet, photo realistic skin tones, and 30 per cent more controls than in the predecessor for gamers to further refine their players. For the first time, gamers will be able to give their players tattoos enabling them to recreate their cricketing heroes and local club into the game with complete precision for the first time. Importing cricket players from the previous Don Bradman Cricket title also allows a seamless transition to the new Don Bradman Cricket 17 game for veterans making the upgrade.

Ross Symons, CEO of Big Ant Studios, said, “The first Don Bradman Cricket got us off to a great start, providing players with an authentic, exciting game of cricket that allowed them to feel like they were standing in the middle of the oval, right on the pitch. Now, we’re taking that realism further with the advanced new engine we have developed this year. The impending release of the Don Bradman Cricket Academy will give players a taste of just how far things have come.”

The Academy will also give gamers a sense of what the final Don Bradman Cricket 17 will look and feel like with its new engine, as Big Ant Studios will continue to update the application in the lead up to the big release, including the addition of playable content.

Good news: There's a new AFL game coming out on the PS4 & X1.

Bad news: The developer is Wicked Witch, who made AFL Wii & AFL Live 2, which were both poorly rated.

The first AFL Live game by Big Ant was pretty good, so hopefully WW can release something more to that level this time around.

From that headline I genuinely thought their complaint was about the glitches, only to find their actual complaint was just as ridiculous anyway...!

So Eurogamer was right, it is going to be the 360/legacy version. Not sure why people are surprised by this though, it's EA after all.

The crazy thing is, you'd think that Konami knowing this would port a decent version of Pro...

FIFA 18 on Switch won't have the Journey, but does get FUT and co-op Seasons

Futsies.

FIFA 18 - referred to officially, it seems, as EA Sports FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch - will have almost every mode available in the console and PC versions.

Ultimate Team and the new Icons mode - a replacement for the previously Xbox-exclusive Legends - make the cut, as do the likes of Squad Building Challenges, Draft mode, Online and Offline Seasons, Tournaments, and a new mode called Local Seasons.

All we know about Local Seasons so far is that it'll feature the ability to play it across two Switch consoles, likely as a form of co-op Seasons mode you can play with a friend. According to EA FIFA 18 on Switch will run at 1080p when docked, and at 720p handheld.

The big exclusion, of course, is The Journey - and it's follow up for FIFA 18, Hunter Returns. That's predictably absent, likely due to the Nintendo Switch's lack of ability to run the demanding Frostbite engine.

Still, a full-fledged FUT on the go? Not bad.
