Spandau Ballet – Chant No. 1

Funky new romantics!

"Chant No. 1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On)" is a 1981 single by the British band Spandau Ballet from their second album, Diamond.

The song became their third top ten hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at #3 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted highly in Ireland and France, where it reached #9 and #10, respectively. On the US Disco Top 80 chart, "Chant No. 1" went to the Top 20 and was the group's highest entry on this chart.

The awesome instrumental version of Chant No. 1.

Monte Video and the Cassettes - Shoop Shoop Diddy Wop Cumma Cumma Wang Dang

The story in the song

The man goes to the bar and meets a girl. The girl takes a liking to him. They start to get closer and when he gets to the close dancing stage of the night, he gets a nasty fright. Apparently he has picked up a transvestite. By then it is too late, and the transvestite is dominant and aggressive and won't let him go. The subject tries to make excuses to get out of having to go. The video shows a number of transvestites in the bar using body language to convey threats of physical violence should he try to reject the offer of sex. The subject then tried to make excuses and evade the transvestite, but he does end up (submissively) going off in a car with the transvestite.
The song got to number 2 in the band's native New Zealand in 1982 and #11 in Australia in 1983.

Written with his fellow Travelling Wilbury's Jeff Lynne & Tom Petty. Jeff produced the track. Released in 1989, charted at #3 in the UK & Australia, #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Following on with the Wilbury theme, one of my favorite's by George Harrison

Written in 1962 by Rudy Clark, so this is a cover song. Jeff Lynne again produced this song, he sings backing vocals on the song too and he co-produced with George. Released in 1987, charted at #2 UK, #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in Australia.

From the Electric Dreams OST, this is Jeff Lynne solo. Released in 1984, only charted at #85 in the Billboard Hot 100. To my knowledge, this song hasn't been part of any Jeff/ELO set and is only available on the Electric Dreams album. Here's the B-side, Sooner or Later
