How can I contact Calavera?

Post by Roofus »

With the demise of Grim Fandango and Goodwill practically the only source for used 80s electronics, it has come to my attention that it appears that old reel to reel tape decks appear to be either sold out or no longer available. Does anyone know how I may contact Calavera to find out if this is the case, or if there are still more available, but the flea market has simply dropped it out of the lack of interest for top loader VCRs.

The only way to reach him is by calling him on one of these:

Legend has it that if you hold a up a laserdisc and use it like a mirror and say Knight Rider 3 times he will appear and give you a copy of Max Headroom on betamax.

Hey, it’s a tough economy. Betamax isn’t cheap.

$17.99 at Frys on clearance! Back in the 80s they used to be $1 a piece!

Still cheaper when adjusted for inflation.

I suppose that is true. A friend of mine used to work for NASA in 1985 and took home $1,000 a week. Adjusted for inflation that is just under 7 billion dollars.

$17.99 for one tape! I'm actually surprised they still sell them.

They only quit manufacturing them in March 2016. I'd like to buy a couple brand new ones just to have. Not for $17.99 though.

That's real interesting, I think they were still making VHS a few years back too. About a year or so you could buy generic VHS blank tapes for like £1 each. I assume there's still a niche market for them. I'm assuming Betamax were still made for the Japanese market

I just finished copying all my old home movies onto Betamax! It took 5 tapes in Beta II at 3 hours per tape. I am now copying them onto VHS. The annoying thing about that though is that I don't have the remote for like 95 percent of VCRs I have. Which is usually not much of a problem because most universal remotes work fine for power, play,ff,rew. The problem is that universal remotes don't have a button to switch record modes (SP,SLP,EP) and for some reason ever damn VCR I have defaults to EP/SLP which is the worse quality. So screw it I'm just going to copy them over in EP mode.

If this seems like an odd thing to do I am doing it partially just for fun and also for an extra layer of backup. I have them on 3 different hard drives and recently put them on DVD. I am using the DVDs to record to VHS/Beta. It is a just incase like if somehow something crazy happened and I lost the digital files then I still have them backed up to Beta/VHS. I mean it is irreplaceable footage so why not have some extra backups?

Check out those super high quality non ghetto looking custom labels! :olol:

Got an odd request. Can you put the Brendon Small/Loren Bouchard 1999-2004 sitcom "Home Movies" onto Betamax?

I don't have a player, but would love the series on Beta
