So Grendel has torn the cruciate ligament in his knee. Normally he doesn't feel pain but he felt this when he tore it. He pretty much screamed and then I had to comfort him for a while to calm him down. He's been on painkillers the past few days so he's alright now.

His operation is tomorrow. All up with the extra stuff needed to be bought it's going to cost about $4k. Because he's 5, it means his other knee will probably go eventually as well.

After the op he won't be able to walk or move much for 8 weeks, which is going to piss him off because he is a very active dog. We bought an enclosure which he will be staying in.

After peeing, he really loves to kick grass and dirt around, and he kicks hard and sometimes for over a minute. We think he did it while doing that, but I was in the kitchen & my brother was in his room when it happened, so we are not totally sure. We just heard a huge yelp and then he hobbled to the back door while whining.

Of course he's still been running around like a dickhead, even on 3 legs. We've been trying to stop him but he's hard to catch when he thinks there's a cat or possum in the backyard.

Mine does that after taking a shit. He gets really energized after dropping a few logs for some reason.

And yeah, you can't catch a dog on the hunt. I don't have possums in my neighborhood but squirrels, rabbits and a few neighborhood cats that wander around mine goes nuts for. Especially the cats because they get on my deck and it drives him nuts because that's his territory to sleep on when he's outside.

He does it after taking a dump as well but he does it more after pissing. Sometimes he'll go to pee, doesn't pee but just starts kicking. :olol:

Grendel got through his operation OK. The surgeon was happy with how it all went. He has to stay at the clinic overnight but will be home tomorrow afternoon.

Grendel had to go back to the vet today and have another xray due to his walking getting worse and he seemed in pain. He ended up having to have a heap of fluid drained out that had caused his leg to swell.

There goes another $700. He's worth it, but it's bloody expensive.

God damn. I hope he's alright. Do you have pet insurance? My German Shepherd cost close to $10k in the final year of his life, but pet insurance covered 80% of it, so it was manageable.

He's OK. He's sooking a bit because he has to go back in the enclosure plus he's got a big compression bandage on his leg again.

I've taken the cone off cause he hates it. Just need to make sure he doesn't lick the bandage.

No insurance. My brother is a member of the store/vet so we do get a 10% to 20% discount.

The $700 was the better of the two potential options. Pre-xray they thought it would either be fluid drain or he might have ruptured the implant, which would have been free but he would have had to go through the surgery again.

They all look so ashamed when they have to wear the cone.

They do. There's also the look of "why are you doing this to me?".

you took the cone off? Rookie mistake.
My dog hated her cone after the bitch jumped out of the car for some reason.
Sooked at us and puppy dog eyed us, so we took it off. she then bolted off as fast as possible on 3 legs, chewed the god damn cast so we were back at the vet half a day later.

He hasn't touched the bandage, so that's good.
