AEW did 833,000 viewers, NXT did 812,000.

Aside from maybe AEW viewers watching NXT to see the WWE vs NXT angle there's no excuse this time for being under 1 million, as baseball is over. So now it would be fair to speculate if they have a problem. Not a problem in that TNT would consider dropping them, since they're still happy the young audience demographic is so strong. But this is a big drop in a month. But I don't know what it is. The quality was certainly there. The Cody promo and Jericho video were some of the best stuff in wrestling this year. And the matches were very good. So I don't know what they can do to be better.

There isn't a problem.
There was an initial buzz about the opening of a new promotion. Now it's tapered off. Some fallback was to be expected. They still beat NXT.
They need to steer the course, cultivate new fans and their existing fans, and not rush. No hotshot angles or booking.

Bryan and Vinny breaking down the brilliance of the Jericho video.

They didn't do the dumb WWE "Dress up like the other guy and do a parody of his promos" gimmick, the mockery was more subtle and smarter. It's not getting enough love. That and Cody's promo were two of the best things I've seen all year in wrestling. It's a shame it isn't drawing better.

AEW reveals first top-five roster rankings

AEW has revealed a new rankings list for each of their divisions.

The first rankings, which were posted on AEW's social media, features Cody, Emi Sakura and The Lucha Bros at the top of each of AEW's divisions. These rankings align with the matches set for Full Gear on Saturday, as Cody will face Chris Jericho for the AEW World title, Emi Sakura will face Riho for the AEW Women’s title and The Lucha Bros. (along with Private Party) will face SCU for the AEW Tag Team titles.

These lists also feature the win/loss records for each wrestler and team. AEW has put an emphasis on wins and losses since premiering on TV last month.

Here are the rankings as of November 8. Full Gear, AEW’s next pay-per-view, will take place tomorrow at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland:

AEW Men’s rankings:

Cody
PAC
Hangman Adam Page
Kenny Omega
Jon Moxley

AEW Women’s rankings:

Emi Sakura
Britt Baker
Hikaru Shida
Allie
Nyla Rose

AEW Tag Team rankings:

The Lucha Bros.
Private Party
The Young Bucks
Dark Order
Best Friends

Quick notes from my end on Full Gear.

1. Young Bucks vs Proud and Powerful - Hey, ring psychology and great character work equal probably my personal favorite Young Bucks match! Loved this match to pieces, the right team went over, and Ortiz screams mega-superstar and world champion material within five/ten years. Reminds me of an amped-up Eddie Guerrero. The backrake work was EPIC. Dude has skills. ****

2. Hangman Page vs Pac - Slow start but the last five/ten minutes were absolute fire. Felt like it took the match a little bit to get going but Pac is a hell of a worker and screams mega superstar potential. Page isn't main event material, I hate to say. ***1/2

3. Shawn Spears vs Joey Janela - Le squash, but I liked the shit out of that spike piledriver. Tully Blanchard is still one of the best heels in the business. Nothing offensive here, perfectly acceptable wrestling. **1/2

4. SCU vs Lucha Bros vs Private Party - Fucking great match - little bit clunky in places but once they got in their groove the match was amazing. All three teams looked good and I'm *FEELING* a SCU/Lucha Bros climax to this storyline. ***3/4 (- 1/4 for a few clunky bits). And hey, Daniels dressing like Penta after the match for that vicious attack was amazing and there is a hell of a violent match in the cards for these two teams. I'll be watching.

5. Riho vs Emi Sakura - I've been a big mark for Joshi for 20 plus years so you better fucking believe I loved this ((I had Emi Sakura's first few matches on VHS tape way back in the day, if you can believe that.)) The ref lightweight fucked up the finale but otherwise absolutely great stuff. Riho is a fucking machine and I wish this could have been longer. ***1/4

6. Cody vs Jericho - Professional wrestling elevated to an art form at its finest. Great storytelling, great finish, great post-match angle, Jericho actually blew *NOTHING,* and I fucking loved this whole thing. *****

7. Moxley vs Omega - Jesus Fucking Christ. I loved this match but I dunno what the fuck to rate it. Moxley held it together wonderfully and Omega did his stunts and the finale on the destroyed ring was an epic climax to a hell of a violent fight. Call it **** I guess. I'm tempted to go higher but I don't know how much of that is because it was good and how much of that is I'm just a fucking sadist.

I love this promotion with my heart and soul.

It was the most fun I've had at a show in ages.

I agree with Ocelot about Ortiz. He has so much charisma, playing to the crowd that might not get across as well on television. I hate the Proud & Powerful name though, it sounds like early 90s jobbers on WCW Saturday Night. But I think they're the best heel tag team in the biz. And it was hilarious that Ricky Morton was one of the most over guys on the show. He's a showstealer everywhere he goes.

But who doesn't have that star quality is Adam Page. I enjoyed the Pac match, but he doesn't have that star charisma. But if they do a good heel turn with him maybe he will. Although that's going to be delayed a while since they're doing that angle with MJF now.

The 3 way tag was very fun. Purists will hate it, but seeing dudes doing crazy spots will always be over.

Cody is a legit star. This is beyond "hey we liked your dad" fan support, he's a star babyface more over than Rollins and whoever the top babyface is on Smackdown (Kofi?) He's not Okada or Omega, but he's smart so it doesn't matter because he does the right things at the right times. I used to not think he was that great and thought Hangman should be in this spot but I was 100% wrong. The crowd was there for Cody, so for all of the great matches Kenny has, you still can't beat an emotional connection to the fans. And that just happens, you can't force it. I'm not saying he's as good as Dusty, but he's certainly the modern version of him. HHH told him "You'll never be The Guy" but he certainly is now.

As for the hardcore match, it was clear people in the AEW fanbase don't really want to see that with Kenny and a lot just hate it in general. They either don't want to see people being hurt or they're not impressed because they watch Big Japan and GCW which go far more bloody and extreme than this was. If you watch Japanese stuff or GCW this was like softcore porn. So either way it just isn't over with people. And it felt like it went on forever. Plus following Cody was going to be tough because the crowd was so invested in that match. And I think people wanted to see Kenny Omega have a Kenny Omega match. I know I did, so I was disappointed. But besides that it was a great night.

I think if you had cut out all the boards and spiderwebs and kept it grounded in realism...chairs and tables and whatever was around the ringside, you would have had a better main event. I can forgive a lot but even I was sitting there thinking 'wtf would someone allow a bed of MOUSETRAPS put under the ring.'

Still enjoyed it, but I'm a sick fuck that way.

Dusty is looking down on Cody and smiling though. That world title match was straight out of the eighties.

I like death matches, but I paid to see Kenny be Kenny, not Kenny try to be Takeda. It's like if I went to a concert and the band decided to play an hour of covers from a different genre. Maybe I like those songs too, but that's not what I came for. They should hire Nick Gage if they want to do death matches and put him with Havoc and Allin.

Also a lot of the death match hate is dumb because guys are probably getting hurt less than someone like Will Ospreay. They throw Foley up as the example as to why it's bad, but Mick was wrecking his body long before ECW, IWA-Japan and the Cell match with Taker. Onita and Abdullah wrestled forever, I doubt Ospreay will have a 40 year career. Hell, New Jack lasted over a decade longer than Lance Storm and Dean Malenko.

Oh I have a feeling we're going to see Allin in a death match pretty soon. I legit am terrified he might actually die.

I can't think of a recent one. Maybe the post-Wrestlemania show where Lesnar returned from UFC to destroy Cena 7 or 8 years ago?
