Most Excellent News: ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ Officially Announced!

Postby Hawq » Wed May 09, 2018 4:11 am

BLOOM announced today that Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) and Alex Winter (Deep Web; Downloaded, The Lost Boys) will officially be reuniting on screen after 27 years as the legendary Ted “Theodore” Logan (Reeves) and Bill S. Preston Esq. (Winter) in the highly anticipated third installment of the Bill & Ted comedy, Bill & Ted Face the Music! As previously reported, Bogus Journey‘s William Sadler could also return as Death!

Here’s the official synopsis that was provided for us ahead of Cannes:

“When we last met Bill and Ted they were time-traveling teenagers trying to pass history class and win the battle of the bands. Once prophesized to save the universe with their rock and roll, middle age and the responsibilities of family have caught up with these two best friends who have not yet fulfilled their destiny. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, Bill and Ted find much, much more than just a song. The film is currently in pre-production.”

Following Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, original creators Chris Matheson (Imagine That) and Ed Solomon (Men in Black, Mosaic, Now You See Me) have penned the script, with Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Red 2, Fun with Dick and Jane) confirmed to direct.

Alex and Keanu stated: “We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”

MGM owns the rights to the film and will release in the U.S. under their Orion Pictures banner.

Scott Kroopf (Limitless) will produce together with Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce of Hammerstone Studios, with Steven Soderbergh serving as an executive producer alongside Scott Fischer, John Ryan Jr., and John Santilli.

more info including what they are doing about Rufus

A Most Excellent News
It is now official, both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will be reprising the titular roles of Bill & Ted on the upcoming ‘Threequel’.
It has been 27 long years since Bill & Ted’s Bogus Adventure and the third movie will continue on in real time. Theodore “Ted” Logan and William “Bill” S. Preston Esquire are now middle-aged men with family responsibilities who have yet to fulfill their destiny of saving the world through Rock n’ Roll.

What is the Movie Going to Be About?
Although they have gotten better at playing as the ‘Wyld Stallyns’, they have yet to write their greatest song ever. This in turn puts the future of the world in jeopardy and risks the fabric of time and space from falling apart.

So the duo once again sets out on another time-travel adventure. However, this time they are accompanied by their daughters to set the course of history correctly. As usual, they will be meeting familiar historical figures and various musical legends to aid them in their quest along the way.

What Will Happen to George Carlin’s ‘Rufus’ Character?
News of the third film came out as early as 2010 from Reeves himself. However, the movie has since been re-written several times and has one of the longest pre-production periods in Hollywood history.

Unfortunately, since legendary comedian George Carlin, who plays ‘Rufus’, passed away in 2008. The movie is then left without one of its pivotal characters. However, the film’s producers have openly stated that they will not be recasting the character. Instead, they will be introducing a different character from the future to warn the duo.

When is This Movie Coming Out?
Although the script is already finished, it might take a while before they can start filming. Both Reeves and Winter are very busy with their careers. Reeves of course is currently involved in the production of the third John Wick movie. Meanwhile, Winter is busy writing and directing documentaries. His latest work is the Frank Zappa documentary Zappa, which is crowd-funded through Kickstarter for $1,200,000 USD.

Winter and Reeves said via Deadline, “We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again.” Franchise creators Chris Matheson (Imagine That) and Ed Solomon (Men in Black) wrote the script themselves. Plus, Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is directing.

Re The Zappa doc, the family were feuding over Franks estate. Not sure if they've made up now as there was a reference in Rolling Stone saying even the documentary is up in the air. Gail Zappa handled Franks affairs and estate & put out a ton of unreleased music.

So, I discovered that a PG rating in the 80’s is waaaaay more lax than a PG rating now. Saw this news and decided to watch to original with my son (he’s 8). That was a mistake.

We were looking at some of the other 80’s PG rated movies, and my wife died when she saw Spaceballs on that list.
