Pictures of ghosts... lost pics from the early 00s

Post by Calavera »

As some of you may know I have purchased a few Sony Mavica floppy disk cameras over the years. One that I bought came with a box full of floppies. They seemed to contain no images but did contain a bunch of 411 files. Example MVC-010S.411. I know the files related to the camera but really weren't sure what they were for. I'm still not sure but I have discovered that some of the files contain a microscopic image of an original picture taken on the camera. The resolution of these pictures are 64x48 so yeah you are just barely able to make out what they are. I've enlarge a couple I've found so let's take a look at these lost pictures from 2001.

These people own a boat and a Sony Mavica? Clearly they are millionaires!

Some random ghost lady poses on point in her most elegant mermaid tail! "Darling get a picture of Muffy in her tail with the Mavica. Use full resolution mode for this one!

You should run PC Inspector on those disks and see what you get.

Here are a few. The first 2 are the full versions of 2 of the blurry pictures I posted.

There are a lot of pictures of people wearing that mermaid tail. Must have been that short period of time when mermaid tails were the hottest thing in 2001.

Here we have one of the coolest guys around. Don't let the hippy clothes fool you, he never does drugs. He needs all his senses when he goes up against video game foes!

Roofus you are the man for telling me about PC Inspector! I would have never thought to do that! That camera came with a ton of disks, probably around 50 or so and now I must go through each one and see what secrets they hold! So far every one I've tried the pictures have been successfully recovered. Amazing how floppy disks from around 20 years ago can still have the original data recovered.

I've done 24 disks so far and probably have around that many more to do. The camera came with 3 containers of disks. I can't find the 3rd one but it is around here somewhere. I've still got around 30 or so to do from the second box. I haven't uploaded anything new from them as there really isn't anything that would be too interesting. I do however have an interesting update.

My girlfriend works at a store in the town where I'd bought the camera from. When I was showing her the pictures she thought one of the women in a few pictures looked familiar. So the next time the woman came in the store she asked her and it is actually the same person that is in a few of the pictures! Apparently the man who owned the camera died a few years ago and I believe he was married to this woman's sister. Unfortunately she doesn't speak with her sister anymore. That is too bad as I'm sure they would enjoy finding all these old pictures. I could have burnt them on a CD or uploaded all of the pictures for them to look at. I doubt they still have the pictures. Maybe I'll end up getting in contact with her and be able to give her all the pictures. I'm glad I'm the one who bought it because I doubt anybody else would have tried recovering deleted data from the disks. I would have never even thought of it had it not been for Roofus! I have to thank you again for letting me know about PC Inspector. It is so cool that I am able to retrieve these lost pictures from floppy disks that are nearly 20 years old. I owe you one Roofus. Letting me know about being able to recover those pictures is probably the most useful information I've ever received from the forums both DCemu and BG!

That would be good idea if you gave them a disk with the photos on. Might be a way for the family to reconnect too if they're not on speaking terms at the moment.
