Re: What music are you listening to / buying
I'm listening to a really odd song at the moment. It's not odd in terms of composition or anything else to do with the song itself, In fact, it's your typical disposable pop song. It's odd because it's grown on me.
Usually, music doesn't grow on me. Typically If I love something at first, I will love it forever more. If I hate something, it's literally the worst fucking song in the entire world untill something even more fucking terrible comes along. And most stuff goes into a big MEH pile, and usually I couldn't tell you if I've ever heard it before after about a week.
This one is weird because it's been in the MEH pile for ABSOLUTE AGES!
I've had no feelings about this song for what feels like an eternity!
Each time it came on the radio I had equal odds of leaving it on, changing the station to try find a better song, or turning it off altogether. But now I've decided that I love it. And then I saw the video which amused me with its corny-ness and made me love the song just that fraction more.
I think I know what it is too. It's the piano. A piano has taken a song from meh to love for me before. The last song that went from the MEH pile to LOVE pile after ages was The Offsprings Hit That in 2003. It took me about 2 years to decide I fucking loved that song, and I decided that was because of the piano as well.
I'd rather listen to this song 100 times in a day than I would hear Fast Car for 1 more second.
I GET IT, FAST CAR IS A GOOD SONG! at least it WAS when it was fresh 30+ years ago and sung by a better singer.
Fast Car must be the worst fucking cover of all time. It sounds the fucking same but with worse singing.
I used to think The Headstones cover of Tweeter and the Monkey Man was the worst cover I'd ever heard in my entire fucking life. And I still think it's a fucking atrocious abomination.
But at least that disgusting atrocity had its own sound. Fast Car is identical but with someone who can't fucking sing?
WHY THE FUCK IS THIS A HIT?? THE ORIGINAL SOUNDS THE SAME WITH A BETTER SINGER? PUT THE ORIGINAL UP THE CHARTS...
At least the headstones have an excuse for their cover sucking... Yeah, trying to remake a song made by a group with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty was always going to be a fucking hard task.

That Bowie video is very crisp looking for 1997. The 4k upgrade worked well.
