His work in Freddy Got Fingered was legitimately underrated because people hated that movie so much at the time.

I forgot he was in that, I'll have to re-watch that.

Rip Torn was hilarious on Larry Sanders, and was probably the reason why I binge watched the whole series a few years ago.

Yeah, I was too young to appreciate Larry Sanders when it was on HBO, but bought the DVDs when they came out the same time Mr. Show and The Chris Rock Show were put on DVD and loved it.

Rewatching Freddy Got Fingered in Honour of Rip.

The movie holds up well. It was funny as teenager, and it's more funny now.

People didn't understand it's supposed to be a complete deconstruction of played out 90s comedy movie cliches. I don't think critics realized Tom Green is more intelligent than they assumed, so they didn't even try to look at it from that angle until his internet show put him in a different light. Plus a lot weren't happy a guy who had only been famous in America for one year got that huge budget (15 million and creative control for a guy with a prank show would never ever happen today.) But what inspired it was Tom was being sent tons of comedy scripts with 90s era cliches (The lovable loser with an unorthodox gift! Angry father! Girlfriend who only cares about her boyfriend's sexual pleasure! The gross out gag to get the movie to have word of mouth! Semen jokes! Random celebrity cameo! Sibling there only for pain to be inflicted upon!) and took it all to the most extreme degrees.

Well when I watched it I didn't read that far into it.. It was just amusing.
it was one of 3 hilarious films of 2001... the others being Rat Race and Zoolander (which also got bad reviews)

All the films are WAY up there for me personally.. I watch a LOT of comedy, and as far as movies go, all are up there with Spaceballs (or any Mel Brooks movie), ghostbusters, there's something about mary, dumb and dumber, caddyshack and flying high.

I don't care if freddy got fingered was regarded as shit or not.. it made me smile, and it still does, a lot more than most comedies.. So it did something right.

Rutger Hauer might be the most criminally underrated actor of all time. Massively influential, quite possibly the best antagonist actor of all time, and the basis for Lestat in Anne Rice's vampire series. Plus he was the single greatest thing about that piece of shit Salem's Lot remake. And the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. And Blade Runner. And....

FML.

RIP you beautiful god you.

RIP Rut

I enjoyed some of his straight to video movies (or almost straight to video), like Blind Fury. And Blade Runner of course.
