I don't mean this disrespectful, but I thought she died years ago.

I remember checking a couple of years ago to see if she was still around and was surprised that she still was.

RIP Doris Day.

Also her son Terry Melcher (who died from cancer in 2004) was a music producer and the man that accidentally inspired the Charles Manson Family murders by blowing off Manson when he kept bugging him about making a demo of his music for him. Melcher had recently left the house Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski moved into. So they came looking for Terry. So it's always weird to think the wholesome "America's Sweetheart" Doris Day has an association to Charles Manson.

Yea I recognised Terrys name and he produced Kokomo by the Beach Boys. He also produced The Byrd's and going back to the Beach Boys he got Brian and Van Dyke Parks together. Plus to bring Manson into the story, Dennis was acquainted with him and there was a doc up on YouTube about Manson and Dennis. they reworked one of Mansons songs on one of their albums too called Never Learn not to love from Charles Manson's song Cease to Exist.

I wonder though had Charles Manson did the music thing and got famous whether he'd still have been like he was. But yea what a six degrees of separation from Doris to Charles Manson.

He wouldn't have done it because the whole situation was he was angry and paranoid about being blown off by rich people who he thought could help his career, so he went deeper into drugs and anger and that boiled over to the murder spree. But he wasn't any good, I don't see any scenario where he makes it as a musician. He was in jail when music changed and he came out still doing folk music that was ended as a trend when Bob Dylan started playing rock music. But even if he wasn't and adapted to the late 60s trends I don't think he had talent that was anything special. I think Dennis was the only one who actually liked his music. Melcher didn't like him but was too afraid of him to tell him. Brian Wilson thought he was awful and told Dennis never to bring him to his house after he met Manson once. None of the Beach Boys knew they recorded an adapted Manson song until years later when it came out during Manson's trial. Dennis passed it off as his lyrics and got the publishing credit.

Thanks. I do think Manson had the evil intent to cause harm within him already so that would have likely manifested itself through the music. You can imagine him "communicating" via Things like backwards masking. Even the title of the song itself "Cease to Exist" has ominous overtones. But that being said, maybe had he been like a cult folk type musician that would have dissuaded him from influencing the Manson family in the way he did. But who knows, maybe the messiah type complex coupled with a gigantic ego would have made him worse.

If you think in terms of the "family" being like a fan base on a smaller scale and say he's using these mind control type tactics through his music it could have had deleterious affects on listeners.

Slate did a podcast series after Manson died and this was the episode about Doris Day's connection.

1. Grumpy Cat: Net Worth $100 Million
Tabatha Bundesen was working as a server when her brother in September of 2012 posted a video of her now-famous feline, Grumpy Cat, to Reddit. The cat’s legendary scowl went viral in less than 48 hours. It’s estimated Grumpy Cat has since earned Bundensen roughly $100 million from appearances, modeling, book deals and ads. Budenesen disputed the number but hasn’t said if it’s too high — or too low.
