What music are you listening to / buying

Post by ian »

I had Daft Punks Random Access Memories bought for me on vinyl. And last week I decided to get another obscure format to listen to music on. Compact Disc!

I bought Bad Religions:
Recipe for Hate 1993
Stranger than Fiction 1994 (Best punk album ever made)
The Grey Race 1996
No Substance 1998
The Process of Belief 2002

all for $15.
And I hope to have all the albums (aside from into the unknown which has never had a CD release and new maps of hell which is completely shit) by the time the next album comes out.

And what will be funny is in 20 years.. you'll have CD's being the next Vinyl.. where people will say it sounds better and paying a lot of money for a new release CD  Even though it doesn't sound any better..

I was searching ebay for records last week and a cassette I own popped up and was selling for a lot, which I was surprised about because I thought cassettes would be worth nothing these days.

Lacuna Coil is releasing a new album in May and it's going to be on cassette. So I guess they're back now.

I looked for that cassette I was talking about yesterday and of course I couldn't find it. It was New Order - Blue Monday and it's going for around $50 on ebay. Some of the other New Order tapes I did find are going for $30+ as well.

Here are a few poorly taken and cropped pictures of some of the other very hetrosexual cassettes I have.

That last one was bought in the mid-90s for about 50 cents.

Maybe I'll post some more exciting cassette pictures in the future!

I love Bro-ing out to Kylie Minouge.

I been listing to a lot of Queen lately. Before the car crash, I was loosely planning road trip where I was just going to drive and listen to the entire Queen Discography.

I am convinced Night at the Opera is the perfect Rock Album.

IMO, it's definitely Queen's strongest album in their discography. The classic albums special about it too is worth checking out also. But really you can't go wrong with any of Queen's albums, I have all of them on CD bar the Flash Gordon OST, but I'll probably get that eventually too. Plus Freddie's solo album "Mr Bad Guy" and the original "Barcelona" duet CD with Montserrat Caballé. They remastered that a few years back with a new orchestral accompaniment as the original used synthesized orchestration & instrumentation as most 80's music too.

The classic albums special

Saw David Gilmour in Toronto last Thursday, amazing show. Surprisingly, I found the Rattle That Lock stuff much better live than the studio versions. Was kind of hoping to hear Marooned and Echoes, but getting Us and Them, Time, Comfortably Numb, High Hopes, Sorrow, Shine On, and Coming Back to Life in the setlist was great.

Probably going to be his last tour.

I've started sorting files. I quickly decided to just start again with music.
So my first download was Metallica's Death Magnetic, Just for Ulrich :olol:

I've had all nightmare long stuck in my head for a week!

Also, I don't care what anyone says.. St. Anger was simply a better album..

New Weezer and Lumineers.

I have to say, the White Album is pretty good so far.

I've always liked Weezer, but they're one of those bands that kind of faded away..

Yeah, I mean I still haven't listened to Hurley and Everything WIll Be Alright in the End. They still sell out mid sized venues here though.

I have got myself Bad Religions 2004 Album The Empire Strikes First for the princely sum of $6.50 including shipping.
And To my surprise.. I bought the best of John Lennon and Bad religions NEW MAPS OF HELL for $1 each at savers (essentially goodwill)

John Lennon is a bit worn, but still plays perfectly.
New maps of hell is (or should I say was) in PERFECT CONDITION  I'm guessing the person who bought it listened to it once, thought it was crap and then gave it away. Makes sense.
I've seriously bought NEW CD'S in worse condition than this disc is. But the CD itself is good, just not the content.. It has the crossbuster so I stuck it to my door with blutak!

I'm currently hunting for Greg Graffin's American Lesion and Daft Punks original release of Alive 1997 for a good price..

(a good price is less than $25 including shipping)
