It's not a negative parody, I'm sure they all love him and would hire him in a heartbeat as Booker. But it's making fun of people out of their league trying to do business in wrestling. AEW doesn't really have that problem since Khan is running the business end. But HHH made that perception that it's 4 guys who are in over their heads in that promo. So it's making fun of that.

I think he was also taking a shot at Wrestlemania when he was talking about trying to get Blink 182 to play in the middle of the show.

Yea that's a good point. Paul E would be a huge get for AEW, especially if they could get Punk on board too. Have him helping with creative and the whole marketing/promotion aspect and I think he could easily take AEW even further than what he did with ECW because like you say, you have Tony controlling the chequebook.

I think Hunter would love to have the creative freedom for NXT that they will all have for AEW. WWE shouldn't be too cocky either because a lot of their future revenue is tied in with the Fox TV contract. If they don't hit the performance targets they could be in trouble, especially with Vince blowing hundreds of millions on his XFL 2.0 vanity project. We all saw how cocky Eric Bischoff was in WCW and fast forward about three years later and WWE bought them and then he had to end up working for Vince.

Punk is announcing an MMA event on May 25th in California. But Tony Khan flew Jericho in from his concert at All In, and the distance between Coachella, CA and Las Vegas, NV is about 300 miles. I don't think he'd be there, I think he'd be saved for the first TV show if they were going to get him. But it's not impossible.

The MMA announcing gig might be a smoke screen to say "Hey Punk won't be at DON, he's st an MMA show!" so if he is flown in then it'll be a genuine surprise.

Theres a rumour going around WWE are interested in bringing him back but I cant see Punk going back there. If he does return to wrestling, I definitely see it being with AEW and/or he just does his own thing on the indie circuit.

With the WWE interest again, him turning them down to go to AEW would be a huge statement. As Cody referenced Punk's "pipe bomb" promo in the DON build up video it does certainly indicate that they are in negotiations or have in fact signed CM Punk.

I would actually wait til TV to debut him though, especially if they've signed Jon Moxley. Have him as your "big surprise" at DON and have Punk do the Lex Luger bit of turning up at the first AEW live TV show.

They've wanted him back since he quit but he's so bitter at them it's probably going to be a Bret situation where it's 10 years before he'd even consider coming back. And by then he'll be almost 50 and won't think he can be as good as he was in his prime so wouldn't want to wrestle.
especially if they've signed Jon Moxley
There's a theory this is a work by WWE. Because he'd have been buried on his way out if he was really leaving to go to AEW. Instead he got a farewell network special while The Revival are now guys who get nearly naked and shave each other and Sasha is a punchline in promos now. Also people feel the production on his video was too good, so either WWE or AEW paid for it and AEW probably legally couldn't do that since he was a WWE employee when it was filmed. The theory is he's just going to do indies but not sign with AEW, ROH, New Japan (who unlike with Jericho are an enemy now) or Impact, then come back in a year. But this will set up AEW fans for a disappointment. Again, that's not confirmed but pretty widely theorized.

That's interesting, thanks. When you think about it they have done that before with Matt Hardy when he "invaded" Raw to go after Edge and said about seeing him in ROH. I've also heard that he told Vince he was finishing up and thinking of retiring so he might have pulled a fast one on WWE and got his release like what Brian did with WCW. It does look too well produced to be made outside of WWE but AEW have the finances to put out a quality promo, plus they have him with blood & barbed wire and WWEs against showing blood now. The video has had 2.4 million views now so if Mox does turn up in AEW it will be a big deal.

Hardy wasn't a work. He was legitimately fired like Daniel Bryan was over choking Justin Roberts with his tie. Vince was very angry he continued to write about the situation on his My Space blog when he asked him to stop because it broke kayfabe over Lita and Kane being a couple. But then when they saw how he was even more popular after his release since he was so sympathetic they decided to bring him back after getting promises he will put aside his hard feelings with Edge and Lita and do business. And in hindsight he should have stayed gone. He helped Edge's career immensely. The Matt feud put Edge over the top as the main eventer WWE tried to make Edge since 2002. But Matt never rebounded until the Broken gimmick.

Ambrose's contract expired so he didn't need a release like Pillman in WCW. He gave his 3 month notice in January that he didn't want to re-sign. But the theory is Vince and Roman talked him into just taking time off, go do matches with whoever is left on the indies (David Starr and Nick Gage are the only two big names I can think of not signed with AEW, ROH, MLW or Impact that are going to be left by the time he starts taking bookings) and then do the surprise return down the road.

As for the blood, this isn't airing on WWE television, so they'd let him do blood.

Yea, good points. I was referencing when Matt "invaded" Raw

When he was (to my knowledge) not under a WWE contract so him turning up which had to be planned since if he really had jumped the barricade then security would have escorted him out of there like they did with Enzo. Even the diehard fans were surprised he turned up and in that sense they "worked" the fans. Nowadays it's difficult to do so, but that angle worked because it came across as real.

With Mox, I was thinking more he was holding all the cards and was bluffing Vince saying I'm not re-signing. AEW was announced on Jan 1st if I'm correct, so he'd have been well aware that with his deal expiring he could hold a ton of leverage in any negotiations. I think WWE assumed he wanted time away but with the video he's made and the name change, it indicates that he wants to continue wrestling. It could be an elaborate work when he does the indie circuit and turns up in a surprise role. But if he was going to do that he could have just sat on the sidelines and enjoyed the time off. Him going back to the Jon Moxley name kinda indicates that he's done with the Ambrose persona. When in theory he could just come back in six months as Dean Ambrose again.

https://www.sportskeeda.com/wwe/jon-mox ... ing-aew-ss

That's a click bait type article, but I think Mox will be more better suited to AEW where in WWE he'd be stuck with a PG version of his old gimmick. A lot of talent given the opportunity especially if they are creative would want to jump ship I think. Holding talent hostage though is a very unwise move when they are supposed to be "independent" contractors. That could generate low backstage morale, which AEW can benefit from by signing disgruntled talent away from WWE.

I don't know, it could go either way. He really did hate creative's ideas for him like the Bane shit. But on the other hand his wife and best friends are going to stay in WWE.

As for that article.

1) Jericho said the same thing about Punk and he's probably not going.

2) The name change could be part of the work, you make AEW look bad when the fans expect him and he never comes. He could be just being Jon Moxley for a little run in GCW wrestling Nick Gage and Jimmy Lloyd in death matches to get it out of his system and then going back as Dean Ambrose or doing a Mick Foley gimmick of having two personalities.

3) The Jimmy Havoc tweet means nothing.

4) Of course AEW wants him.

5) No way in hell they really offered him $6 million. I doubt Omega or Jericho are making that. Only Lesnar gets that money. Guys in WWE make a lot, but that's factoring in merchandise and video game royalty checks, not just a straight up contract. I think besides Brock they're only giving 3 million up front and the rest in royalties. And I don't think he's worth 6 million dollars. CM Punk is, but not Moxley.

I'm assuming AEWs weekly TV will be on ITV4. Although if the demand is big enough would be cool to see it on the ITV channel like WCW used to be on in the early 90s.

All Elite Wrestling's TV deal with Turner is said to be "virtually done," according to Tony Maglio of The Wrap.

AEW President Tony Khan and some of the AEW wrestlers are expected to represent the company on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the WarnerMedia Upfronts. The event begins at 10am ET but there is scheduled to be an announcement on the partnership before the Upfront presentation begins.

There's no word yet on details of the deal but financial terms are not expected to be disclosed because AEW is not a publicly traded company.

We noted before how Twitter insider @fightoracle reported last month that AEW was expected to be at the Warner Upfronts. He also reported that AEW will be debuting during the first week of October, the same week that WWE SmackDown begins airing on Friday nights for Fox. Jim Ross stated in an interview in April that the AEW show will be live for two-hours every week.

According to the Wrap, the plan is for AEW's weekly TV show to air on TNT. @fightoracle had reported last month that AEW would air on Tuesday nights. The Wrap story had originally stated that the upcoming AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view on May 25th would stream on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, but Maglio clarified that it is not the case.

The last few shows weren't good. But the new angle parodying the situation with WWE wrestlers wanting their release is great. :olol:

Spoiler
Cool they signed Rick Knox as a ref. Angelico and Jack Evans are signed now too. Matt was talking about different names before they settled on AEW - World Elite Wrestling and Worlds Best Wrestling. I think with the first that's kinda similar to WWE and Worlds Best sounds kinda corny. So I think they made the right choice with All Elite Wrestling. Hangman was pulling a Pepsi truck (cue CM Punk to AEW confirmed clickbait headlines)

WarnerMedia Partners with All Elite Wrestling for Multi-Platform Launch of Groundbreaking New Wrestling League
TNT to Air Weekly Matches Later This Year

Inaugural May 25 Event Available on B/R Live and via Pay-Per-View AEW to Introduce a New Generation of Diverse Wrestlers and Give Fans a New Wrestling Experience for the First Time in 20 Years

May 15, 2019 – WarnerMedia announced today that it is partnering with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the new professional wrestling promotion featuring a world-class roster of diverse male and female wrestlers, giving fans a new wrestling experience for the first time in 20 years. WarnerMedia and AEW together will build this powerhouse sporting league from the ground up and will begin airing weekly matches later this year. With this league, AEW is introducing a new generation of wrestlers to fans, offering fun, gripping and authentic athletic matches that will make wrestling more accessible to a broad audience. WarnerMedia will utilize its position as a next-generation global media company to build this league into a global pro-wrestling franchise.

Founded by President and CEO Tony Khan, AEW is headlined by members of The Elite, which includes all-star wrestlers The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Cody and Brandi Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and Hangman Page, and a roster that includes the legendary Chris Jericho. Omega, Cody and The Young Bucks also serve as executive vice presidents of the company in addition to in-ring talent, and Brandi Rhodes also serves as Chief Brand Officer.

Later this year, WarnerMedia will provide exclusive multi-platform access for fans to watch AEW events, airing live weekly matches on TNT in prime time, as well as streaming them through WarnerMedia's B/R Live and on pay-per-view. A leading digital sports enterprise, B/R Live's high fan engagement will provide an invaluable opportunity to build AEW's audience.

"All Elite Wrestling is a talent-forward, fan-first league whose inclusive approach to creating high-quality athletic wrestling competitions is already making waves with fans and attracting top-tier wrestlers," said Michael Quigley, executive vice president, commercial operations, content strategy and monetization, TBS and TNT. "It is high-adrenaline, gripping entertainment and we can't wait to bring it to fans everywhere with this game-changing new business."

"Wrestling fans have wanted – and needed – something different, authentic and better for far too long," said Tony Khan, President and CEO of AEW. "AEW is answering the call. AEW is about more than wrestling. It's about a movement fueled by wrestling fans who have been underserved and perhaps even disappointed by what the industry has produced in recent years. AEW is rising to the occasion with DOUBLE OR NOTHING and today taking it a step further by partnering with WarnerMedia, which is as committed as we are to making wrestling fans the one and only priority. With WarnerMedia, AEW is poised globally to redefine wrestling as we know it today."

Focused on producing fast-paced, high-impact competitions, AEW offers fans less scripted, soapy drama, and more athleticism and real sports analytics, bringing a legitimacy to wrestling that it has not previously had. Wrestlers will also be given more freedom to explore their characters and highlight their athletic abilities. Introducing statistics to wrestling for the first time ever, AEW will raise the stakes for its matches and deepen fan engagement by tracking each competitor's wins and losses as the wrestlers pursue championships, analyzing their moves, assessing damage to their opponents, and providing insights into their winning streaks.

B/R Live will serve as the exclusive digital streaming partner in the United States for AEW's inaugural event, DOUBLE OR NOTHING, on Saturday, May 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. DOUBLE OR NOTHING, which sold out in under 30 minutes, features an exhilarating card including the headline clash between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho; Cody taking on his brother Dustin Rhodes; The Young Bucks battling the Lucha Bros for the AAA World Tag Team Championship; Hangman Adam Page clashing with PAC; and Britt Baker, Nyla Rose and Kylie Rae competing in a three-way match.

Additionally, the hour-long live pre-show special THE BUY-IN will stream on WarnerMedia and AEW's social channels. THE BUY-IN includes the first ever "Casino (Battle) Royale," which will see 21 competitors including Jimmy Havoc, Billy Gunn, MJF and Jungle Boy entering the ring in waves of five wrestlers every three minutes followed by one final entrant, lucky number 21, all fighting it out in the ring until there is one winner, whose reward will be a future title shot against the first ever AEW World Champion.

The media rights deal was negotiated by Khan and Bernie Cahill, co-founder of Activist Artists Management, LLC, an entity in which Khan is also an investor and partner.
