New Wii game to be released just 2 weeks shy of it's 13th Anniversary

The Wii was released in North America on November 19th 2006. It was discontinued by Nintendo 6 years ago back in October 2013. But Ubisoft is still releasing a brand new game for this 13 year old console. Just Dance 2020 is to be released for the Nintendo Switch, Wii, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia on November 5th 2019.

Ubisoft's announcement of the Wii version was met with surprise and ridicule from gamers who were left wondering about Ubisoft supporting a platform that has been discontinued since 2013; a Twitter user going by the handle alienaishas speculated that this was due to the Wii's very large install base, claiming that organizations such as hospitals use Just Dance as part of their patient rehabilitation programs.[4] However, a Ubisoft representative denied the rehabilitation reason, stating to Polygon, "A lot of our [Just Dance series] players are children and families who continue to play on Wii."

No Wii U version though. I wonder why? Just for fun I decided to see if the sales figures were available for Just Dance 2019 to see how it sold on the Wii compared to the Wii U and other consoles.

If that site is correct the sales are as follows.

So it is no surprise they would still release it on the Wii in 2019 since the 2018 Wii version was #2

So from this I've learned that there seems to be a decent amount of Just Dance fans who still play it on the original Wii. It also tells me that the Just Dance series has taken a huge drop in popularity. From 10 million sold with Just Dance 3 to only 1.49 million with Just Dance 2019. These numbers will only drop further with the 2020 release. I'm guessing around 150,000 will sell on the Wii and the total across all consoles will barely break 1 million.

Those sales figures probably don't include digital sales for the current systems, so it will still be doing 2m+.

Besides music licensing, the games wouldn't cost much to make.

I played Dance Central at a demo booth back in 2010 on the Kinect. I know older folks and families that bought a Wii just for Just Dance back in the day, I'm sure it'll still make Ubisoft plenty of money.
