A playable build of Dead Island 2 has leaked online

Throughout this console generation, Deep Silver has been passing the Dead Island 2 project to multiple developers, with the game seemingly getting stuck in development hell each time. Now, a build of the game from 2015, one year after the game was first announced, has leaked onto the internet.

The build was apparently uploaded and then shared on 4Chan. Normally these 4Chan leaks can be disregarded but it turns out, this one is completely legit. The build of Dead Island 2 is dated June 2015, meaning it was the last iteration of the game being worked on at Yager before the project was moved to a new studio.

Several videos of gameplay from the leaked build have been posted to YouTube, giving us a look at how the game was shaping up five years ago. Eurogamer has confirmed this build of the game as legitimate too, and has verified that it was a build crafted by Yager, best known for Spec Ops: The Line.

Shortly after the June 2015 build, Yager and Deep Silver parted ways over creative differences and Dead Island 2 has been in the hands of Dambuster Studios ever since. With that in mind, the version of Dead Island 2 floating around at the moment won’t be the same as what eventually comes out.

KitGuru Says: This is a very interesting turn of events, after all, it is not often that a playable build of an unreleased or cancelled version of a game leaks like this. Deep Silver will likely have a few words to say about the matter in a couple of days time.

Crysis Remastered gameplay footage has arrived

Back in April, Crytek officially announced Crysis Remastered, bringing back the hardware-crippling shooter with all of the latest graphical enhancements that CryEngine has to offer. We haven’t seen much of the game in action, but the gameplay trailer has hit the web and we have some screenshots too.

The Crysis Remastered gameplay trailer is set to premiere on YouTube tomorrow, but there is a leaked version floating around if you’d like an early look:

You will also find some screenshots above, which were made public early via the Microsoft Store- a common source for leaks at the moment. The screenshots are likely captured from Xbox, but the gameplay trailer showcases the PC version specifically.

Crysis Remastered is releasing on July 23rd for PC, Xbox One and PS4. A Nintendo Switch version is also coming, but we are unsure if that will be coming out on the same day as other platforms.

KitGuru Says: There are certain scenes in the trailer where the new graphics really shine. I’ll be looking forward to putting my rig through its paces once again just like we all did back in 2007. Are many of you planning on picking this one up?

The reception was so negative - as in some ways it looks worse than the original - that they postponed the release to fix it.

Serious Sam 4 receives a new release date

Serious Sam 4 receives a new release date

Croteam has confirmed that Serious Sam 4 's launch has been delayed until September 24th, missing the game's planned August release on both PC (through Steam) and Stadia.

Announcing the game's delay, Croteam released the following statement. "It's been a wild ride for us, and it's about to be even wilder when Serious Sam 4 obliterates normality this August, and by August we actually mean September 24, 2020."

Serious Sam 4 is a game that's designed to gaming hardware that's stronger than today's Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, requiring the CPU power to create combat encounters that could include thousands of foes. With this release, Croteam plans to scale up the chaos to unprecedented levels, and to do that the developers are using the Vulkan graphics API on PC and CPUs that are stronger than today's consoles. That's why Serious Sam 4's coming to PC and Stadia.

At this time of writing, Serious Sam 4 lacks full PC system requirements though these should be released in the near future. Gamers should expect hefty CPU requirements especially for those who wish to play Serious Sam 4 with high refresh rate PC monitors.

Right now, Serious Sam 4 can be pre-ordered on Steam and Stadia.

GoldenEye 64 Remake shut down by Bond Licence holder

GoldenEye 64 Remake shut down by Bond Licence holder
The developers of GoldenEye 25 have announced that their fan remake of GoldenEye 64 is no longer in active development, stating that MGM Studios and Danjag, the James Bond licence holders, have "kindly asked" the team to cease the game's development.

GoldenEye 25 aimed to recreate the single-player portion of GoldenEye 64 within Unreal Engine 4, with hopes to release the game on PC in August 2022 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nintendo 64 classic.

Thankfully, the GoldenEye 25 team's efforts will not go to waste, as their existing work will now be re-forged into Project Ianus, a new 90s style first-person shooter. GoldenEye 25's Twitter account will be deleted later this week, and PC gamers can follow the progress of Project Ianus on the project's new Twitter account.

With project Ianus, all James Bond references will be removed from GoldenEye 64, all weapons and items from the game will be given their real-world names or new fictional names. Thanks to this removal, Project Ianus can also be released on Steam. Consoles ports will also be possible.

IP Lawyering at its finest

There hasn't been a new Bond game for PC or consoles since the launch of 007 Legends in 2012. The franchise has no recent entries, and there doesn't appear to be any plans to release any new Bond games in the near future. In recent times, the closest that we have gotten to a new Bond game is Forza Horizon 4's "Best of Bond" DLC, and that's just a themed car pack.

GoldenEye 25 used no assets from GoldenEye 64, used no code from the original and was a non-profit fan game. It posed no threat to the James Bond franchise or its license holders. While IP law must be respected, these laws exist to encourage IP owners to create new products and media. When the proper right holders are unwilling to create new Bond games, do they have the moral right to shut down non-profit fan projects? Food for thought.

source I really hope that they'd got enough to be playable game, or at least some levels of it, & that those get 'leaked' mysteriously
