they are record breaking, just not in a good way

And, you know what, I’m going on this rant again. We are going on 1 year since the PS5 launch. Sony continues to tout record-breaking sales of the PS5 as if everyone on the planet owns one now. But because of the infuriating decision but most retailers to only sell consoles online, only one group of people actually own them, and that’s resellers.

If we could just go back to the days of allowing people to wait in a physical line outside a store for one, this whole mess could be alleviated. Actual limits could be enforced, no single person could buy up an entire store’s inventory of online stock in 2 seconds, and all the guesswork of when a store will have their inventory available would disappear overnight. But I guess those awesome sales numbers are more important than anyone actually owning a console.

Another problem is there are not enough. This long after the 360 came out there would have been to many to make it worth the resellers time.
