That might be a sneak diss at Vince. The story was Ted Turner called Vince in 1988 and said "Hey Vince, I'm in the wrasslin' business." Vince replied "That's great, but I'm in the sports entertainment business."

Re: All Elite Wrestling Thread (Double or Nothing) AEDub!
AEW notes from WOR
-The day isn't finalized because while they still really want Tuesday for the old Smackdown audience, TNT is still committed to showing NBA games on Tuesdays October-May. So Wednesday is probably a better timeslot, but they'll have to build a new following. They are market testing the idea. Although during NBA playoffs no matter what day AEW is on they will be preempted like Nitro and Thunder were.
-They didn't get a blockbuster money deal, but they did get guaranteed money in addition to production costs covered and a 50-50 ad revenue split.
-The plan is to tour the tapings instead of do a single venue like Impact. They're looking at 4,000 seat venues to start out until they build a fanbase.
-They're still in negotiations for a Canadian TV deal.
-TNT hasn't announced ratings projections yet. But they wouldn't be expecting AEW to come close to WWE ratings for at least a year.
-No guarantee New Japan will care if AEW is very successful and leave ROH. Dave likens it to having expected AWA to go into a partnership with WWF after they took Hogan from them. There's still some hard feelings about Kenny leaving since they had so much planned around him as a long term champion that would break them into western countries.
-Double or Nothing will be $49.99 on PPV and streaming on Turner's B/R app. They weren't allowed to make the stream cheaper because everyone has a clause in their contract with cable PPV providers they cannot discount their TV PPV price anywhere.
-The other major offer they had was from Showtime, but since they are a premium cable network they chose having more exposure on TNT, which is in 90 million homes.
-Nobody at Turner is acting embarrassed to have AEW like they were WCW, and part of that was the staff meeting The Bucks, Cody and Kenny and discovering they weren't the stereotypes of professional wrestlers.
-Turner is planning on starting a streaming service but it's not known if AEW will be involved yet.

WWE loyalists still mad Omega didn't sign with WWE are calling this a bust. AEW hopefuls aren't sure what it means.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Thread (Double or Nothing) AEDub!
The angle at today's WrestleGate show in Nottingham, England involving Pac and Hangman Page was done largely to present the match that had been built up because the match won't be taking place at Double or Nothing on Saturday.
The official word from AEW is that there were creative differences regarding the match and Pac won't be on Saturday's show. With Pac's regular matches in the U.K., it's known that beacuse he takes his status as world champion with Dragon Gate seriously, he has not agreed to any losses since winning the Open the Dream Gate title and to protect that has done 30:00 draws with Zack Sabre Jr. and Will Ospreay. On the flip side, AEW wants to present a sports-like atmosphere and had their own direction for what they wanted.
The Pac vs. Page match will be released this week on the Internet by AEW with the idea that everyone can see the match, even if it had a DQ finish, for free, so fans are getting the hyped up match. Page agreed to fly to England and do the match to make up for the hyped match not happening on the PPV. Page will be wrestling against a new opponent, although the name probably won't be announced before the PPV show. The DQ finish kept things open ended enough that Pac may be back with the promotion at some point to face Page, although there is no definitive time frame.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Thread (Double or Nothing) AEDub!
That sucks. Hangman v Pac was a match they put a lot of stock into as for crowning the first AEW champion. So that's a knock back to their plans. However, they could say have the Casino battle royale winner go up against Hangman. Or if they have any surprise(s) they could be up against him for the belt.
