C64 Maxi Joystick

Post by Iced Coffee Man »

What is the best replacement? Do you think the included joystick is crap or do you like it?
Mine is very hard to use and sometimes even gets stuck in a direction, if that makes sense. It feels like I could break it if I try harder or get angrier. I know it was an issue when the first C64 Mini was released last year , but you would think they fix it after a year, fucking cunts.

It's shit.

They released a new version that comes with the C64 maxi that's supposed to be a lot better.

Is that the one that was released in december 2019? Because that's the one I got and it's still crap. Unless I just got unlucky.

Yeah it is. It's the full size version with a working keyboard.

From the reviews I saw, the new stick is better built and more like the ones that came out in the 80s. The one that came with the mini was hard to use and can snap fairly easily, although mine is still intact.

Is it USB or standard 9 pin?

You can use other USB pads and sticks with it.

Here's a review that talks about the stick.
The C64 Mini was a pretty good attempt at replicating the classic mini console experience for an 8-bit computer, but it was let down by a terrible joystick that made many of the bundled games almost unplayable. The joystick included here still isn’t an actual Competition Pro, even though it’s trying to look like one, but it’s close enough and the microswitched controls are precise enough to cope with all the more difficult action games.

It also has four additional buttons for performing various meta functions and there’s some complex instructions in the online manual on how to reprogram the buttons. It’s also available separately for around £20, so if you have The C64 Mini and don’t feel like upgrading you can get one of the main benefits of the Maxi separately.

Not just any, but I have ordered one from the compatibility list.

What will the Amiga Maxi joystick be like?

It will probably be the CD32 controller again.
