Ok guys, so I've downloaded a file

I finally got the file downloaded to my desktop, but now I am understanding that I will also need a winrar to be able to use the file. I'm new to this so I'm wondering, is Winrar safe? It isn't malware or bugs is it? If I get this Winrar will I always have it and anytime I download a file I'll be able to use it or does it need loaded everytime?

WinZip is better and they still make a current version so you know it is safe.

Thanks for the suggestion but Lycos doesn't work on my machine. No worries though I ended up ordering a unzip program from a mail order catalog. It took a very long time to arrive. I ordered it shortly after my last post in this thread and it just arrived earlier today. It is called PKZIP. I've attached a picture of it below



I haven't used it yet. I am currently studying the manual and learning the commands.
