The Prodigy change lyrics to Smack My B***h Up - 26 years after track was released

In 2010, Smack My B***h Up was voted the most controversial song of all time in a poll by the Performing Right Society - following claims it glamourised domestic violence.

The Prodigy have changed the lyrics to Smack My B***h Up - 26 years after the controversial song was released.

Despite being one of the band's most celebrated hits, the words have led to claims it glamourised domestic violence.

Outlawed on a number of TV and radio stations, the band have, until now, refused to tone down the content, insisting the lyrics actually mean "doing anything intensely".

However, according to The Sun, in two recent gigs, Maxim, lead singer since the death of Keith Flint in 2019, skipped the line and instead repeated "change my pitch up".

The dance group did not let their fans know about the switch before the shows at Alexandra Palace.

In 2010 the track was voted the most controversial song of all time in a poll conducted by the Performing Right Society (PRS).

God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols was second and Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax came third.

This is so weird. It’s the most controversial song? Cool. Play one of their dozen other hits instead. The song was a product of its time, and if it’s no longer appropriate to play, then leave it behind.

They're just Chemical Brothers for druggies/edgelords/regular people. Regular people would force the change to get with the times. The druggies won't care in the slightest, it was never about the music or the lyrics but the whole vibe, and the edgelords will all be too old to care anymore.

I fail to see a problem with changing it. Or leaving it as is. Or forgetting about it and removing it from the setlist entirely.

I saw them in roughly 2009-10, probably still have the ticket stub but can't be bothered to find the exact date. I've never been asked by as many people if I had any drugs as I did at that festival at that stage.

In fact for that hour and bit, I probably got asked for more drugs than all the other EDM shows I've been to combined.

The lyrics aren't exactly the selling point of a Prodigy show though, and I suspect 90% of people still going to their shows are too fucked out of their heads to even NOTICE any change anyway.
And the remaining 10% probably have ears too fucked to HEAR the change anyway.

As for the show I went to... It was good. They did a set that wasn't brilliant, but not bad... But try telling an edgelord or druggy they aren't the best musical act of all time and you're likely to get stabbed with whatever object is closest to hand. Even if they only have a wallet or an iPhone, they'll still try and stab you with it and not hear that they aren't the greatest act of all time, in all the known universe.
