Racing/Driving Games Thread

Post by Dr. Zoidberg »

A thread for racing and driving games.

Gran Turismo & Forza have their own threads. Mario Kart goes in the Mario or Nintendo threads.

So, the best racing game ever is Burnout Paradise.
Since we have a racing game thread, all of it should be Burnout Paradise.
Need for speed is only worth a shit because EA said: HEY CRITERION, WE NEED A GOOD RACING GAME AGAIN since NFS has been shit for about a decade.. What can you do?
And Criterion Said: we got your NFS game right here!!! And they made a poor mans burnout... Which STILL turned out to be the best NFS had been since High Stakes.
Come to think of it. Need for speed has introduced very little in terms of NEED to play racing games...
1994: The Need for Speed.
1999: Need for Speed: High stakes.
2003: Need for Speed: underground.
2010: Need for speed: Hot Pursuit. (aforementioned poor mans burnout)
Those are the only 4 important Need for speed games... And one of them was a poor mans burnout.

High Stakes was the best racing game of its generation. And YES, that includes ALL of PS1, 64 and Saturn, there was not a single better racing game on ANY of those systems (beetle adventure racing on 64 comes bloody close)
If the studios weren't too busy remaking the 50 best selling games from the past 12 months, I would say they should remake High Stakes.
But who needs a good game? EA is probably too busy re-releasing NFS heat which came out on November 8, 2019.

so at FOUR MONTHS OLD, it should have been re-released at least 5 times by now, yes??? (in before heat remake within 1 year)
If I should Die Hard Arcade before I Alan Wake.

I saw the Albert Park Virtual F1 season race the other day... F1 even makes video games boring! A safety car in a video game??? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!!
But while nascar SEEMS boring... It takes IMMENSE concentration and skill to just keep turning fucking left all the time... Like it's so boring and tedious, you stop paying attention, and then crash, causing a 30 car pileup...

I learnt how hard it was playing oval tracks on Forza 3. I am sure both ICM and Skynet will attest to my crashes when I lost concentration and wiped us all out 30 laps into a 60 lap race!

lap 1... OK We're off, Don't crash.
Lap 5... Ok, we haven't crashed.
Lap 10... Bored now, lest start drifting!
Lap 20... Sorry sir, my intelligence chip seems to have melted
Lap 30... OOOOPS... CRASH INTO A WALL and then bounce into everyone else taking us all out of the race!

NASCAR games are only fun when driving full speed in the wrong direction

There’s gonna be a lot of Dirt purists that will hate this trailer.

Overall a lot of people seem to like the look of it though.

It's being made by the team that made Motorstorm, Driveclub and OnRush.

I don't care for the visual style of that game. I'm guessing they are trying to emulate the look of old arcade racers like Virtua Racing but it comes off as looking more like Legos than vintage polygons! If you want to make an awesome arcade racer it needs to be done in Model 3 style graphics. I'd love if somebody would come along and make a sequel to Emergency Call Ambulance. That is my favorite Model 3 game. The only problem is that it is very short, only 4 stages. They really should have made a sequel to it on Dreamcast. Keep the gameplay the same but just add more levels.
