Watched an old TNA PPV (Lockdown 09 I think it was) and Yujiro & Naito were a tag team.

Spoilers from WK
Spoiler
Jay White said in a backstage promo that he will leave New Japan Pro Wrestling after the New Year Dash event on January 6.

After losing to Kota Ibushi on the second night of Wrestle Kingdom 15, a dejected White cut a promo backstage, upset about his loss. He said that he was contractually obligated to appear at New Year Dash if New Japan booked him, but then would leave the promotion after. White said that no one had any respect for what he gave out there and for what he’s done. He said he hadn’t seen his parents in 3 1/2 years because he put everything into becoming a star in NJPW. He said that it was his destiny that he was about to be god, but ended up being wrong.

“Maybe my time would be better spent someplace else,” he said. “I don’t want to do this anymore. If this is all it's for, I’m not going to do it anymore.

Following the main event of night two, SANADA, who beat EVIL earlier in the show, came out and challenged Ibushi for both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles. Ibushi accepted the challenge.

Prior to the start of the second night of Wrestle Kingdom, two dark matches featuring Stardom talent took place. In the first bout, Utami Hayashishita, Saya Kamitani, and AZM defeated Natsupoi, Himeka, and Maika when Kamitani pinned Natsupoi with a phoenix splash. In the second bout, Giulia and Syuri defeated Tam Nakano and Mayu Iwatani when Giulia pinned Nakano with the Glorious driver. According to Dave Meltzer, these matches aren’t expected to air anywhere and were for the live crowd.

New Japan Pro Wrestling announced a crowd of 12,689 for night one of Wrestle Kingdom, and 7,801 for night two.

Meltzer says they still have hope of getting traditional US TV deal, but AXS not being a Nielsen monitored station when they were on it really hurt their ability to point at ratings when in negotiations. They were doing around 300,000 viewers according to the sheets. Also the AEW relationship they finally have now will really help their exposure.

The February 21 Road to Castle Attack event has been canceled due to earthquake damage.

NJPW announced on their website this evening that their February 21 show in Fukushima had been cancelled due to earthquake damage. The Toyota Crown Arena, which was scheduled to host the event, was damaged during a 7.1 earthquake that struck on February 12.

Ticket holders for the show will be refunded, with a refund procedure taking place soon. The event was to mostly consist of multi-man tag team matches, with a main event of Kota Ibushi & Tomoaki Honma vs. Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito.

The tour will continue on February 22, when the company returns to Korakuen Hall. The two Castle Attack shows will take place on February 27 and 28 at Osaka-jo Hall. Kazuchika Okada vs. EVIL headlines the first night, while Kota Ibushi vs. Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP Intercontinental title headlines night two.

MARTY SCURLL PART OF RECENT NEW JAPAN STRONG TAPINGS
BY JOSH NASON | @JOSHNASON | FEB 25, 2021 7:18 AM

On Wednesday's Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Marty Scurll worked at the recent New Japan Strong tapings in California.

He didn't verify the story that Scurrl was involved in an post-match angle with Rocky Romero as was reported by Fanbyte's Emily Pratt. Due to non-disclosure agreements, information has been hard to verify. Fightful first reported his involvement with Pratt reporting he was at the January 22nd day of taping. It's unknown how many shows he will appear on as part of the tapings and when they will air.

From Pratt:

"The source said that while everyone working on NJPW Strong signs an NDA about the content of the tapings, there was no extra secrecy about Scurll’s involvement: “They weren’t trying to hide him.” The source says they were surprised by Scurll’s involvement, saying “I thought we were going to be the company that wasn’t booking these guys to get some buzz. They’re going to get buzz alright, but probably not the kind they’re looking for. And it just reeks of letting things slide because these people are all friends or whatever.” They added that “I really just think fans should know his involvement beforehand, so they can choose to tune in or not.”

Scurrl has worked for New Japan extensively in the past, last competing in the 2019 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. A presence in Ring of Honor since 2016, he re-upped with the company in January 2020 in a wrestling/booking role.

During last summer's #SpeakingOut movement, he was accused of a 2015 sexual assault by a woman who was 16 at the time. He admitted to the encounter but said it was consensual, and legal due to the age of consent in the UK. He later released a second statement that was more contrite, saying that while he didn't "become aware of her age until after the encounter, the reality of the age disparity is not lost on me."

In June 2020, ROH announced an investigation into accusations made against their contracted talent. While never making the findings of those investigations public, several wrestlers were quietly removed from their roster page including Scurll. In January, they announced a mutual parting of the ways.

The 32-year-old's last match was in February 2020 at Gateway to Honor in a six-man tag.

MARTY SCURLL OUT OF NEW JAPAN PLANS, STRONG APPEARANCE SCRAPPED

Marty Scurll will not be featured on any New Japan Strong episodes nor is he expected to be part of New Japan Pro Wrestling's plans anytime soon.

The news was first reported by the Super J-Cast podcast and confirmed by Dave Meltzer.

News broke last week that Scurll was part of the January 22nd taping in California and was rumored to be involved in a post-match angle with Rocky Romero. That led to a backlash on social media due to a 2015 encounter with a then-16-year-old female who said he sexually assaulted her -- the story of which came out during last summer's #SpeakingOut movement.

He admitted to the encounter, but said it was both consensual and legal due to the UK age of consent. He later released another statement, saying that while he didn't "become aware of her age until after the encounter, the reality of the age disparity is not lost on me."

At the time of the allegations, he was part of Ring of Honor as a wrestler and member of the booking committee. The company said they were launching an investigation into any such claims against their talent and while never releasing the result of that investigation, the two sides parted ways in January. He had worked extensively for New Japan in the past and last worked for them as part of the 2019 Best of the Super Juniors tournament.

The 32-year-old has been ouf of action since February 2020.

Will Ospreay has vacated the IWGP World heavyweight title as he is out of action with a neck injury.

NJPW released a statement Thursday morning and revealed that Ospreay suffered the injury during the second night of Wrestling Dontaku. They said he would not be participating in the next series of events and will return to the United Kingdom for rehabilitation. No timetable is set for his return and as a result, the IWGP World Heavyweight title is now vacant.

An announcement on what comes next for the IWGP World Heavyweight title will be made at a later date. Ospreay had held the IWGP World Heavyweight title for 46 days, defeating Kota Ibushi at Sakura Genesis on April 4th.

Ospreay defeated Shingo Takagi on the second night of Wrestling Dontaku on May 4th to retain the title. He was scheduled to defend against Kazuchika Okada at May 29th's Wrestle Grand Slam at the Tokyo Dome. However, that and the other stadium show set for Yokohama were delayed due to Japan extending their COVID-19 state of emergency through the end of May.
